The Generation Equality Forum, a major event for women's rights will be held in June 2021

The Generation Equality Forum, a major event for women's rights will be held in June 2021

For the first time in 26 years, the world meeting on women's rights will be held, starting in Mexico City in March and culminating in June 2021 in Paris. The Equality Generation Forum, a major event for women's rights that could not take place in 2020 due to sanitary conditions, is being prepared on all continents.

The United Nations Population Fund-Office of Togo, has decided to mobilize through an initiative called "When African Women LEAD" in order to contribute to the success of this great global meeting, by giving the opportunity to young girls from Togo, Benin, Burkina-Faso, Liberia, Ghana and Guinea to give their vision of the world by 2063, but also to involve influential African women through the reaffirmation of their commitment to the defense of women's and girls' rights.

This Generation Equality Forum, which is an intergenerational global campaign and gathering, has mobilized six different coalitions of action for the creation of global, innovative and multi-stakeholder partnerships. Bringing together United Nations (UN) member states, governments, civil society actors, women's rights and feminist organizations, international organizations, and the private sector, these six coalitions are each focused on a specific theme:

  1. Gender-based violence,

  2. Justice and economic rights,

  3. The right to control one's own body, sexual and reproductive health and rights,

  4. Women's action for climate justice,

  5. Technology and innovation for gender equality,

  6. Feminist movements and leadership

The said coalitions will present proposals for concrete actions and initiatives to be carried out over the next five years. UNFPA-Togo through its initiative is much more ambitious, because the vision of the 1000 girls of these six partner countries is that of the world by 2063.
